Yorkshire Day Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who attended the May 2nd Leeds Book Fair. Congratulations to David Robertson for winning the Book quiz and also to Judy Nicol for her innovative way of selling books!
David chose Charles Nicoll’s ‘The Lodger – Shakespeare on Silver Street’ which he rates as excellent. His choice is no surprise as he is the Director of ‘Theatre of the Dales’ www.theatreofthedales.co.uk. The site has details of a recent work for the Headingley Litfest, a ‘Merchant of Venice Tour’ and an interesting Christmas Package which may appeal to book-loving readers.
The next fair falls on Sunday August 1st which, as every good Yorkshire men and woman knows is Yorkshire Day, a celebration of the White Rose, God’s own County, and everything Tyke. What a wealth of Yorkshire writers there are: The Bronte Sisters, Alan Bennett, Harry Speight, Dorothy Una Radcliffe, Keith Waterhouse, J.B. Priestley, Edmund Bogg and many more. We shall celebrate with Yorkshire Tea and parkin in the café and a Yorkshire Quiz. Of course those (like me) unfortunate enough to be born elsewhere will be very welcome.
